London & Paris Plus

Linking London and Paris, the two most popular cities in Europe, is fast and easy thanks to the Eurostar train under the English Channel. This tour includes those great cities, but also ventures into the countryside and villages around each, to give you a broader view of the people and history of each country. In England we'll include the Cotswolds region, its green hills dotted with fluffy sheep and small, thatch-roofed villages. We'll also include the picture perfect 18th century village of Bath, and a visit to Stonehenge. In France, we'll tour the D-Day sights in Normandy, stay in a charming seaside resort and visit the medieval world of Mont-St-Michel.

Day 1: Arrive in London, where I'll meet you and transport you to our hotel in the Cotswolds After some time to freshen up and settle in, we'll explore some of these villages.

Day 2: Cotswold. Today we'll visit Oxford, where we'll tour one of the colleges that make up Oxford University. Afterwards we'll tour Blenheim Palace, home of the Duke of Marlborough and one of the finest manor houses in Britain. You'll have time to explore some of its 2000 acres of manicured parkland before we return to our Cotswold village.

Day 3: Bath. We leave the Cotswolds behind today and head to the city of Bath. After arrival we'll take a guided walk through the Georgian city, which provided material for many of Jane Austen's novels. Afterwards we'll descend to the Roman orgins of this spa town with a tour of the Roman and Medieval baths.

Day 4: Bath. In the morning we'll visit Stonehenge, sitting still and lonely on the Salisbury Plain. Afternoon return to Bath, where you'll have free time for exploring some of Bath's many other museums, or just relax and enjoy the pedestrian center of town.

Day 5: London. It's on to the big city this morning, with a short drive to London. After settling into our city center hotel we'll get out for a walk from the Halls of Parliament to Trafalgar Square. Along the way we'll visit Westminster Abbey, see Big Ben, No. 10 Downing Street (where the Prime Minister lives) and the Queen's Horse Guard. In the late afternoon we'll walk through the heart of the West End, from Piccadilly Circus to Covent Garden.

Day 6: London. We'll start with a visit to the Tower of London, where we'll have a guided tour by one of the 'Beefeater' Yeoman Warders, then we'll see the Crown Jewels. Afterwards we'll take a boat ride on the Thames for river views including Parliament and the London Eye. Late afternoon for free time wandering or shopping.

Day 7: London. In the morning we'll see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, then head over to the British Museum. Here we'll see the exhibits on Ancient Egypt and Greece, including the Rosetta Stone and the carvings from the Parthenon in Athens. Late afternoon and evening free for more wandering, shopping, or catch a play in one of the West End theaters.

Day 8: Paris. This morning we'll take the Eurostar train from London to Paris, arriving in just over two hours. After arrival we'll visit Notre-Dame cathedral, and explore Paris' Latin Quarter.

Day 9: Paris. In the morning we'll tour the highlights of the Louvre, including Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory and a couple of Michelangelo statues. Afternoon free for you to visit the Eiffel Tower, shop on the Champs-Elysées, or just sit in a café and watch the world go by.

Day 10: Paris. This morning we'll tour the Orsay Museum, home to most of Paris' Impressionist paintings. Afternoon and evening free for other museums, shopping, or wandering.

Day 11: Normandy. In the morning we'll visit Versailles, where we'll tour the massive palace and have time to explore the gardens. In the late afternoon we arrive in our charming sea side resort, where we'll take a guided walk to learn its history.

Day 12: Normandy. We'll tour the major sights of the invasion beaches, including Utah Beach, the American Cemetery at Coleville and Pointe du Hoc. Late afternoon return to our village.

Day 13: Normandy. We'll day trip to Mont-St-Michel today, where we'll climb up to the peak of the mont to tour the abbey, then leave some free time for wandering and shopping before we return to our Norman village for the night.

Day 14: Paris. Our final leg of the trip takes us back to Paris, but we'll stop in Giverny along the way to visit Monet's house and garden. Late afternoon back in Paris for last minute sightseeing or shopping.

Day 15: Tour over after breakfast. Transportation to the airport, or continue on your own.
Price includes: accommodations in comfortable, characteristic hotels, all in central locations; all ground transportation from arrival in London to departure from Paris; breakfast each morning; entry and tour of all sights mentioned in the itinerary; the services of your Hand Crafted guide, who also acts as driver, interpreter, and window on European culture and history.
